Communities in Brown County will celebrate Independence Day this weekend.

Several communities are hosting July 4 celebrations in Brown County.

Russellville

The Russellville July 4 dinner and homecoming will take place at the Rambler Center. Food will be available beginning 11 a.m. RCAPS is sponsoring the event. Proceeds will go toward the expenses for the center.

The Walter Miller American Legion will hold a flag burning ceremony at 10 a.m. Anyone with worn or torn flags that need destroyed properly should put them in the container at the front entrance of the Rambler Center.

The legion will present the colors at 11 a.m., the dinner and homecoming will take place, the annual Joe Myers Memorial 5K Run will take place, and the museum will be open part of the day.

Aberdeen

The Talent Show at the Aberdeen Park on the river will be held 5 p.m. July 4. Anyone is eligible and can participate. All participants will compete against each other, regardless of age. Performance may showcase any talent signing, dancing or performing a musical instrument. Participants may perform solo, duo or in a small group.

First place will receive $150; second place, $100 and third, $50. Registration is from 1 to 4:45 p.m. the day of talent show. The event is sponsored by the Aberdeen Festival Committee. For more information, call Kay at 606-759-0421 or Lynn at 937-549-2941.

Winchester

The Winchester First Church of Christ Choir will present its second annual patriotic concert 6 p.m. Sunday, July 5, including “Stars and Stripes Forever,” a presentation through the history of the American flag and the legacy on which it was founded. This is enhanced with a DVD presentation. Following the concert, members invite everyone to stay for a dinner of American picnic food.

Ripley

The Ripley Lions Club 4th of July Festival activities have been announced. Daily prizes will be awarded throughout each day. The events are:

5 p.m. — Festival opens (food, vendors, games)

5 p.m. — Chili cook-off registration (all ages)

6 p.m. — Chili cook-off

7 p.m. — Entertainment

10 p.m. — Festival closes

Friday, July 3

7 a.m. — Fishing tournament (largest fish caught — 15 and under)

10 a.m. — Festival opens (food, vendors, games), pie/cake registration (all ages)

11 a.m. — Pie/cake contest (auction to follow)

noon — Fishing tournament winners announced — decorated bike registration

1 p.m. — Decorated bike contest

2 p.m. — Decorated bike parade

3 p.m. — Baby Show, Little Miss/Mister, and Junior Miss registration

4 p.m. — Baby Show, Little Miss/Mister, and Junior Miss competition

7 p.m. — Inside Out band

11 p.m. — Festival closes

Saturday, July 4

Additionally, Rankin House historic site grounds will be open July 4 to view the fireworks. Those in attendance are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets on which to sit.
