The Brown County Humane Society is preparing for the annual dinner and silent auction, the Dog Days of Summer Banquet.
The event will take place from 6 to 11 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 1. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Eagles Hall, 600 Mt. Orab Pike, Georgetown.
Pamela Rudd, event chairman, said this is the third year the organization has held the dinner and auction, which has grown each year, becoming one of its biggest fundraising events.
“When we started organizing this event for 2015, we wanted it to be different. In the past, we used large event halls in Cincinnati. We felt like we were getting too far away from our community,” Rudd said. “This year, we decided to ‘bring it back to Brown County’ and with the help of the Eagles Club and many other business sponsors, we were able to do that. It is a way to give back to our supporters and thank them for supporting the animals of Brown County.”
Rudd said that putting the event together is a lot of work, but also a lot of fun.
“We have a lot of great volunteers,” Rudd said. “The community and businesses who support us also make it a success.”
Rudd estimated the 2014 dinner raised $7,000, with more than 150 people in attendance. The group looks forward to raising at least the same amount and hopes to surpass it.
Rudd said the overall goal for the event is simply awareness, adding that her main hope for the evening is that people leave with a better understanding of the BCHS mission, which is to promote the value of animals through care and education, the many ways that is done and finally, how important community involvement is to the group’s mission.
“The event is also an important ‘celebration’ of the bonds we have with animals and the responsibility we have to the animals who are dependent on us. I am excited to see our community come out and celebrate with us,” she said.
The $25 ticket price includes dinner, drinks and music from the band “Acoustic Edge.” There will also be a silent auction, raffles and split the pot.
